Beaver Update: January 2016
Last year at about this time, the Beavers - fresh off their first championship - were focused on adding a few pieces to defend their Rock League Baseball title. Well, that happened, and now its 2016 and things are looking a little different. Here's a recap of what's happened so far.
- An MJ-like 3-peat in the RLB was enticing... but fees to play on the Rock's "MLB replica" fields are starting to resemble the price to rent a real one. The lack of an open bar for the back-to-back champs was the last straw.
- Due to prior success in the WABC tourney and the RLB, the historic Land O Lakes baseball league extended an invitation for the Beavs to join. The LOL West just might be the best men's amatuer baseball league in the state. We say yes and ask questions later. MKE is a member of the Suburban Division with teams from Brookfield (2), Lannon, Menomonee Falls, and West Bend (2).
- One question unanswered was where the Beavers would call home. Finding a baseball field in Wisconsin in the winter is challenging. Almost 10 different leads on diamonds fell through. We were finally able to confirm that Henry Aaron Field, which hosts Wisconsin's only NCAA D1 Baseball team, would be where the Beavers call home for 9 games in 2016. The north-side diamond is also undergoing a $200k+ upgrade which includes a synthetic turf infield and backstop/netting improvements. The renovation should be completed before the Panthers begin their 24th season at "the Hank". The home opener is May 15 vs Bulldogs of Brookfield.
- Rock League Baseball held their awards ceremony and announced Alex Rejniak won the AL Cy Young and Tim Garceau won AL MVP. Still waiting on that free bar tab or pins for our letterman jackets.
- A Beavers Bowling Fundraiser or something will be happening so plan for that.
