West Bend, WI -  The Beavers grabbed an early lead in Game 1 of the 3rd Annual Wisconsin Amateur Baseball Classic, and it would be all starter Matt Burke would need as the Beavers won 8-2 vs the Rubicon Red Sox.

The teams and the tournament were lucky that they got this one completed, thanks to steady storms that held off just enough to get some games in.

The Red Sox took advantage of an error to score in the first inning, but then returned the favor in the bottom half and it was 1-1 after 1.  Milwaukee scored 3 in the 3rd, punctuated by a 2-RBI single by Tyler Schoen.  The score remained 4-1 until the 5th inning when Rubicon cut the lead to 4-2.  The Beaver responded with 4 of their own in the botttom half to go up 8-2, and Burke cruised the rest of the way.

Garrick Day finished 2-4 with an RBI and 2 runs scored.  Mike Schroeder went 1-2 with a double and 2 runs scored.  Rob Tschimperle was also 1-2 with a ribby & scored.  Matt Burke thew a 7-inning complete game, gave up just 4 hits and 1 earned run, struck out 9 and walked 2.  Matt moves his season record to 7-0 with a 1.12 ERA.

Pool play continues Saturday as Milwaukee will take on the Monches Irish and West Allis Nationals at 10am and 2:15pm.
