Big Comeback Salvages Weekend Split
7/6/2020

Beavers 0 @ West Bend 7-Up 10

Saturday, July 4th

The Beavs will look to play the 4th somewhere other than West Bend next year, since they were shut out at Carl Kuss on the holiday for the 2nd year in a row. Milwaukee starter Tyler Drezek was solid just like his Opening Day victory against the 7-Up, and allowed one run in 5 innings pitched, striking out 5. The Beavers had opportunities to get on the board but couldn't get a big hit against West Bend starter Matt Parent. It was a 1-run game until it was broken open in the 6th and 7th inning.

Beavers 4 @ Hartland Oilers 3

Sunday July 5th

It looked like the wood wouldn't come out all weekend until Jordan Bloch knocked home Jarrett Gates to cut the Oiler lead down to 3-1 in the 7th inning. Josh Smith started the game for the Beavers and after the Oilers chipped across 2 runs in the 3rd, he locked it down for 3 more scoreless innings. Ryan Wood came in relief and was dominant despite a fading strikezone. Things looked bleak but the energy was up even after 2 quick outs in the top of the 9th. Nick Siebenlist got things going with a single and Bloch walked. Phil Reed came up and with 2 strikes, ripped a ball over the right fielders's head for a 2-RBI double to tie the game. Evan Barbian singled to lead off the 11th, stole 2nd and was knocked in by Bloch to take the lead. Wood tossed a near-perfect 10th and 11th, finishing with 5 scoreless to earn hit first Lakes victory.

The offense was led of course from the 2 RBI's from Reed and Bloch. Gates had a solid day with 2 doubles and a run and Rob Tschimperle had 2 hits. Siebenlist, Barbian, Tyler Schoen and Bloch all had stolen bases.
