WEEKEND RECAP
Saturday: MKE: 9 7-UP: 11
Kewaskum, WI - The Beavers took a 1-0 lead into the 5th inning when a walk and couple bloopers lost in the sun started a 6-run rally for the West Bend 7-Up. Down 7-1, the Beavs exploded for 5 runs in the 7th with which was started by a pinch-hit home run by Matt Huffaker in his first swing as a Beaver. Doug Martin followed with a 3-run blast later in the inning. Despite tacking on a few more in the 8th and 9th, the 7-Up added insurance of their own with 4 in the 8th to seal the victory. Jarrett Gates had 3 of the Beav's 15 hits and scored twice. Martin and Justin Barkhurst had 2 hits and a walk. Huffaker, Dominic Bumadianne, and Korben Biersack also recorded multiple hits. It was a tough day for pitchers with the wind blowing out, but Matt Burke and Budadianne gave Milwaukee a chance.
Sunday: MKE: 8 Pewaukee: 2
Lannon, WI - Even though Milwukee was technically the road team, the Beavers hosted their first game at their new ballpark and a nice crowd saw a nice victory. Josh Smith started on the bump and the Beavs gave him almost all he needed with a run in the first on an RBI single from Doug Martin that knocked in Joe Green. It was only a 3-1 game until the Beavers finally pulled away with 5 runs in the 8th. Peter Nelson went 2-5 with a double, 2 runs and 2 RBI's. Joe Green also had 2 hits and scored twice. Jarrett Gates had 2 hits, a double and knocked in 3. Matt Huffaker also had a multi-hit game. Smith went the distance and allowed just one earned(ish) run and 6 hits with 3 strikeouts. Fun fact: Josh also tossed the Beaver's only 9-inning complete game last season again Oconomowoc.
NEXT UP: MKE (2-1) @ Oconomowoc Five O's (1-2) on Sunday, 6/2, at 1pm
