First Inning 3-Run Bomb by Martin Propels Beavers to 4th Straight League Championship

A 9-4 ALCS win clinches series over Irish as Milwaukee seeks first title

FRANKLIN, WI -  The Beavers didnt wait their usual time or two through the order to get their bats going in Game 3 of the American League Championship Sunday night at the Rock.  An RBI single by Mike Schroeder gave the Beavers a quick 1-0 first inning lead and also put two men on base for the #5 hitter, Doug Martin.  The Beaver home run leader launched a 3-run shot to left-center to spot Milwaukee a 4-0 lead and they never looked back.

The Irish ace and Beaver nemesis this season was removed after the first inning.  Meanwhile, Beaver starter Matt Burke pounded the strikezone (9 strikeouts, 0 walks in 8 innings) and would go on to pick up his second playoff victory (16 innings, 4 earned runs).

The Irish didn't go down easily as the Beavers held on to a 6-3 lead heading into their bottom half of the 6th inning.   Tyler Schoen scored on a steal of home as Garrick Day was caught in a run-down, and then Justin Barkhurst singled home two more runs to take a 9-3 lead.  Alex Raver finished the 9th on the mound, taking down the Irish 1, 2, 3.

After losing Game 1 by a score of 6-3, the Beavers outscored the Irish 19-5 in games 2 and 3.   Martin led the Beavs going 2-3 with 3 RBI's.  Brett Youngbeck stays hot as he went 2-4 with a walk.  Tyler Schoen was 2-3 with a double and 2 runs scored.  Matt Burke and Alex Raver combined to strike out 10 and walk none.

Milwaukee will face the Builders again in the Rock League Championship, beginning on Wednesday.  The Builders swept the best of 3 series last year and finished this season 19-1-1.  They also beat the Beavers 12-5 in the team's only matchup way back in May.
