Beavers Hit Roadbump in 6-3 Defeat, Game 2 Thursday

Plenty of hits but not enough timely ones spot the Irish a 1-0 series lead

FRANKLIN, WI -  The Beavers and Irish have gotten to know each other quite well over the years and it showed in a well-played Game 1 of the American League Division Championship on Tuesday night.  Both starting pitchers were solid and despite 22 total hits, the Irish held a slim 3-2 edge heading into the 9th inning before scoring 3 off Beaver relief pitching and eventually winning 6-3.

Milwaukee outhit the Irish 12-10, but squandered many opportunities as they left 12 runners on base.  The Irish got on the board with one in the 4th inning and two more in the 5th.  Tyler Schoen and Brett Youngbeck tallied RBI singles in the 5th and 7th to make it 3-2.  Down 6-2 heading into the bottom of the 9th, the Beavers scored 1 and put the tying run on 1st base but the Irish closer got out of the jam.

Garrick Day pitched 7 strong innings for the Beavers, allowing 8 hits, 3 runs, 2 earned, one walk and 7 strikeouts.  Kundinger picked up his 2nd win against Milwaukee on the season for the Irish as he went 8 2/3 innings, allowing 11 hits and 3 runs.  Mike Schroeder was 2-3 with a run scored for the Beavs.  Justin Reminger went 2-3 with a double.

Game 2 of the 3-game series is on Thursday night at the Rock beginning at 7pm.
